Homework Policy
At Akheville School, we believe that homework serves as a link between school and home which helps to enhance the work being done in class as well as helps the teacher to gauge the level of the student’s progress.
The school therefore ensures that every homework is properly and thoroughly planned so as to link homework to curricular demands. We also discourage parents from treating such homework as theirs. When such homework is done by the learner, even though under the supervision of the parents, it gives the teacher the opportunity to correctly gauge the student’s progress and understand the next approach to be implemented. This also benefits the parents who by then will be able to assess the child and give proper feedback to the school.

Our Aims
Our aims for having homework are as follow:
To use the homework as an instrument to continue to improve standards of attainment.
To practise or consolidate basics skills and knowledge, especially in major subjects.
To enhance the quality of the learning experience offered to learners and to extend it beyond the classroom environment.
To reinforce work covered in class by providing further opportunities for individual learning.
To give opportunities for parents, children and the school to work together in partnership in relation to children’s learning.
To encourage learners and their parents to share and enjoy learning experiences.
To encourage children to develop the responsibility, confidence and self-discipline needed to study independently.
Our Rationale
Homework can be set in many different forms with many different expectations and outcomes.
There is no fixed pattern to setting our homework. Hence, the nature and type of homework changes throughout a learner’s school career.
Homework will not necessarily come in form of written tasks; it could be in form of research, reading books/materials, project or even practice. However, all forms of homework must be taken seriously by the learners and their parents.
Homework should not cause undue stress on the learner, family or teacher. |
All forms of homework must come with deadlines and such deadlines must be taken seriously by the parents. Learners will be sanctioned for not meeting deadlines in submitting their homework. |
Teachers and caregivers must give feedbacks on homework to the learners within 24 hours. Parents have the right to ask questions if this is not done by the teacher.
